Butterscotch ran four years, 2020 to 2024, and it's a warm, deep golden orange - lighter than Poppy, which it overlapped, and closer to the retired Tangerine than to anything currently made. It arrived the year the company sold off its foodservice divisions and refocused entirely on dinnerware for the home, which makes it a marker of a real turning point. It retired in 2024 alongside Lemongrass and Mulberry. Of the recently retired colors, this is the one people ask about most, and a short run means it's already getting harder to find.
Using Butterscotch on a table
Butterscotch carries enough color to lead a table on its own. Use it for the plates and let quieter pieces do the rest; two or three settings of it go a long way. Its mid lightness (L* 67) means most food reads against it without either washing out or vanishing. It nearly disappears against a white cloth (2.5:1), so it shows best on dark wood or a colored runner.
