Shade family
Fiesta black colors
Black is Fiesta's smallest and most dramatic family: three colors, all Post 86, beginning with Black in 1986. It is the highest-contrast surface the company makes, and that is the point of it. Pale food - rice, pasta, a poached egg - reads sharply against a black plate in a way it does against nothing else, while dark food disappears. As a full setting it can feel severe; as a charger under a bright color it makes the bright color look brighter. Foundry, introduced in 2016 with the rugged texture of cast iron, is the one still made, though the company does not count it as an official Fiesta color.
Fiesta has used 3 black glazes since 1986, starting with Black and most recently Foundry in 2016. 1 is in production today: Foundry. They run from Slate at the light end to Black at the dark end; Black has had the longest run of any black.

Black is Fiesta's own grouping, not a measurement. Sorted by hue angle instead, some colors land in a different band than their name suggests. See the whole palette sorted by the rainbow →
