Peony arrived in 2022, replacing Slate on the shelf, and is still in production. It's a soft, dusty rose - much lighter and gentler than the Claret it followed, which is about as sharp a turn as the red family has taken. It's the closest current color to the retired Flamingo (ΔE 4) and to both Roses, vintage and Post 86, which makes it genuinely useful: if you have any of those three and want to extend a set with pieces you can still buy, this is the answer. As an accent it's easy to place; as a full setting it's very soft.
Using Peony on a table
Peony has enough color to be noticed without taking over, which makes it a good second or third piece - a salad plate or a serving bowl rather than the whole setting. Its mid lightness (L* 62) means most food reads against it without either washing out or vanishing. It nearly disappears against a white cloth (3.0:1), so it shows best on dark wood or a colored runner.
