Notes on Sage

Sage ran three years, 2015 to 2018, arriving alongside Slate - one of the rare years Fiesta introduced two colors in the same season. It's a soft, dusty olive green, and the contrast with Lemongrass, which it overlapped, is about as extreme as the green family gets. It's a quiet, earthy color that behaves more like a neutral than an accent. Jade, introduced in 2023, is the closest thing currently in production, though Jade is darker and cleaner. Three years is a short run, so Sage doesn't come up often.

Using Sage on a table

Sage has enough color to be noticed without taking over, which makes it a good second or third piece - a salad plate or a serving bowl rather than the whole setting. Its mid lightness (L* 34) means most food reads against it without either washing out or vanishing. It separates strongly from a white cloth (8.2:1) and less so from dark wood.
